Rufus West was one of the first prisoners we wrote to and visited. He was battling the total deprivations in what the prison called "behavior management" , where, for a rule violation, they would throw him in a cell naked without possessions for days. Here we have his essays in reverse order, the newest first. he has become an effective voice for the underserved and underheard.

Forum For Understanding Prisons (FFUP) is a 501c3 prisoner support group, based in Wisconsin, dedicated to finding ways in which concerned citizens can make changes in our justice system. With our websites and blogs we are trying to help prisoners get their voices heard. They have much to say we need to hear. Although we do a lot of advocacy within the system , our focus is working with prisoners and their families to help them survive their prison ordeal psychically intact .
